Smart Merchants attended the annual Harvest Dinner in Hood River, Oregon, put on by Gorge Grown Food Network. This dinner showcased great food made with ingredients from local farmers, and beverages from local breweries and wineries. Gorge Grown works to address food insecurity, link local buyers and sellers, nutrition education, and much more. Their effort is important to the local community, but also highlights problems that need to be confronted. 98% of the food consumed in the Gorge is imported, and 1 in 3 people who live in the Gorge worry where their next meal is coming from. We thank them for both a wonderful evening, and for showing us the importance of buying local.
